Enjoy Your Day – Birthday Card Series

Enjoy Your Day 2015 (1)

Hello everyone!!!

I’ve just popped up at my blog to share what I created after a few week pause. I’ve been on vacation and on my return found 35º C (95º F) in the city. We are literally melting!!!  I wish I could turn back on the sea shore… so my today’s birthday card is all about summer and it’s heavily inspired by my journey and by my new furry friend I met at the the hotel where we were staying.

I’ve never thought that cats love staying in the pool, but I was wrong. Besides this picture finally brought me the inspiration on how to use funny kitty images from Newton’s Nook Design Summer Vacation stamp set.

I did a little bit of watercoloring using no-line technique and partial die-cutting. I’m still experimenting with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and  Strathmore watercolor paper so I will let you my opinion later. Here’s the up-close look on the watercoloring… and, of course, the little mischief is colored like my cat Tommy.

Hope you like the card! I’m posting it as my entry to the Inky Paws Challenge #22 – Birthday. Here’s the inspiration photo of the challenge.

As always thanks so much for stopping by!

Not Feline Well? – Get Well Card Series

Not feline well 2015 (1)

Hello guys!!!

I’m back with another card inspired by the Newton’s Nook Inky Paws Challenge #21 – Color Challenge. I received my new NND stamps just in time for the challenge and how could I resist not to give them a try?! The result is… this cute kitty card for my Get Well Card Series.

I’m going to leave a few words about some new products in my stuff that I was testing on this card: new colors of distress markers in Cracked Pistachio and Abandoned Coral, and new for me Strathmore watercolor paper. I was so glad that the inspiration photo allowed me to use the new distress marker colors, I find them just perfect for spring and summer time. As for the watercolor paper, I like that it’s completely  white. When you use it keep in mind that it’s a cold press watercolor paper so it gives you the lovely texture, but at the same time makes difficult to stamp your images neatly.

On this card I used a spot coloring technique. I hand draw a talk bubble around the sick Newton with a pencil to help me keep the shape while I was making watercoloring. To emphasize the spot area I brought a lot of Wink of Stella to the colored parts of the card (it’s hard to show in the photo all the shimmer that Wink of Stella gives to the card, but in real life it’s just gorgeous!)

When I did the sketch of this card I though it would be nice to color the kitty in the center of the spot in order to put the focal point on him. But to be honest, once I finished watercoloring I changed my mind. If I remade this card, I would leave the hole spot area in gray tones. I suppose it will give more contrast and more impression that the Newton is sick that’s why he and the world around him has no color.

Here’s the inspiration photo of the challenge.
