I started with a piece of watercolor paper and die-cut a stitched scalloped border on the bottom part. Once chosen the cute kitty with coffee cup stamp, I decided to give it a spring twist and add a few tiny tulips from NND Simply Seasonal stamp set. Since I didn’t want to have some stamp lines crossing on my image, I did a partial masking both on the stamp and the stamped image.

Here’s how you can do that! Placing the flowers inside the mug means that the image has: 1. one part of the mug in front; 2. then the flowers inside and finally 3. the other part of the mug and the kitty behind the flowers.

First before inking the image mask partially with a post tape the “behind” part of you stamp that will cross with flowers later like on my picture below and stamp only the “front” part of the mug. Pay attention only to the areas that will cross later and don’t worry about the rest of the stamp.

Stamp aside on a masking paper, cut out and place the same “front” part of your mug on top and start adding flowers. Remember to mask every time all the flower parts as well.

Finally ink all the kitty stamp and stamp the whole image. Only then remove all the masks and you will finish with a cute spring scene!

Here are some more tips and tricks! Using a stamp positioner or a stamping tool for this technique will help you to align perfectly your stamp.

Remember that you can bend and shape your clear stamps on the acrylic block or the door of your stamping tool if you need to change the direction like I did with flowers here.

Use small images you have on the stamp sets to create your own matching pattern paper. I used some bold mug and coffee stamps to create a non distractive tone-on-tone background.
