Mother’s Day Cards – Mother’s & Father’s Day Series

Mom 2015Hi all!

Haven’t had a chance to post these two cards that were inspired by the Simon Says Stamp’s last Flickr Challenge. We were suggested to use only four colors: pink, sky blue, green and yellow. I decided to keep everything quite simple and give to the cards a sketch look.

I experimented with different mediums and made a few backgrounds. Then I simply heat embossed some scribble flowers from SSS Favorite Flowers and SSS Best Mom stamp sets. I find that these stamps go perfectly either with the Mother’s Day theme or with a sketch look of the backgrounds.

The background that you see on the picture above was made with Tim Holtz Distress Paints. I happened to use them only a few times so this background was a real experiment. Besides I don’t have many colors so to achieve some colors I mixed on the craft sheet different distress paints and even added some distress inks. First I didn’t like the result, but once I made the white embossing on, it turned out quite nice. Finally mounted everything on a craft cardstock to stick to the subject at hand.

The second background is made by using common watercolors, brush and some water. In order to make the colors look like stripes, I added little water. Otherwise, the colors would begin to blend and would give more smooth and soft look to the background like on the one I made with peerless watercolors, but haven’t turned it into a card for a moment.

Hope you like these simple cards! If you have any question or suggestion, please, leave a comment below. And as always thanks so much for stopping by!!!
